The Reason Behind It All

By: Brian Richards Rodriguez

Before Strip Skates was a brand, before the events, before the grant, before any of this… there was just a feeling.

And it started a long time ago.

As a kid, I was always drawn to movement. Not necessarily the structured kind, not the typical team sports where everything had a set role and a set path. I liked trying things. Figuring things out. Moving my body in ways that felt different.

I wasn’t chasing being the best on a team, I was chasing that feeling when something just clicks.

That moment where your body and your mind sync up and suddenly… you get it.

I found that feeling early on with skating.

Not in the traditional sense, not the way most people think about it. But in a way that felt more open, more free, more creative. Something that didn’t lock you in. Something that let you move how you wanted.

And it stuck with me.

Over the years, that mindset carried into everything. Trying new things. Staying active. Getting outside. Pushing myself just a little further each time. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to see what I was capable of.

That’s really what this has always been about.

Movement.

Freedom.

Curiosity.

At some point along the way, I realized something…

Most people don’t get that feeling very often.

Not because they can’t, but because they don’t get introduced to it in the right way. Or they think it’s too hard. Or they feel like it’s not for them.

And that never sat right with me.

Because I knew how powerful that feeling was.

That moment when you try something new, you’re a little unsure at first, maybe even a little awkward… and then suddenly you find your balance, you start to move, and you realize:

“I can actually do this.”

That shift right there?

That’s everything.

That’s confidence.That’s growth.That’s fun.

And that’s what made me want to share it.

Somewhere along the line, I came across these super unique skates. Different from anything most people had seen. Simple in concept, but completely different in how they feel under your feet.

And every time I stepped on them, it brought me right back to that same feeling I had as a kid.

That spark.

That curiosity.

That freedom.

And I kept thinking…

More people need to feel this.

Not in a complicated way. Not in a high-pressure way. Just in a “step on and try it” kind of way.

Because once people do, something changes.

You see it instantly.

The hesitation turns into laughter. The uncertainty turns into confidence. Strangers turn into teammates. People start moving, connecting, living in the moment.

That’s the part that matters.

That’s why Strip Skates exists.

Not just to sell something.

But to create that moment.

To give people a reason to get outside. To move their body. To try something new. To challenge themselves just enough to grow.

And to remember that being active doesn’t have to feel like work…

It can feel like play.

It can feel like freedom.

It can feel like you’re a kid again, figuring something out for the first time.

And the best part?

That feeling never really goes away.

You just have to step back into it.

So whether you’re 6 or 60…

If you can stand, you can try.

And if you try…

You might just find that feeling again.

Look both ways.
